Rally Report
Wednesday - Our rally started with the sun shining. The first to arrive was Bryan and Betty followed by Bernard and Helen with June and John arriving later.
Thursday - Chester was our destination for the day. A beautiful City with something for everyone. The 700 year old double tiered shopping area with a mix of old and modern shops was very interesting and we also visited the 1,000 year old Cathedral. On returning to our site we welcomed David and Tricia to complete our party.
.
Friday - The UNESCO World Heritage site Pontcysyllte Aqueduct was our area of choice today. After lunch at the Telford Inn we boarded a canal narrowboat which took us over and back across the aqueduct which crosses the Dee Valley 38 metres below and was built between 1795 - 1805 by Thomas Telford (Architect) to supply a reservoir near Crewe at a rate of 6 million gallons of water a day taken off the River Dee at Horseshoe Falls which we viewed before returning
Saturday - We visited Llangollen Railway and boarded the standard gauge train that was to take us up the Dee Valley to Corwen, 10 miles through spectacular scenery which is the longest standard gauge heritage railway in Wales. We had a light lunch at the Old Workhouse in Corwen before returning to Llangollen. In the evening we went for a meal at the Hollybush which was most enjoyable. |
Monday - Back to Llangollen to visit Plas Newydd, home to the Ladies of Llangollen between 1780 - 1829. A fascinating place with wood carvings throughout and an interesting history. Afterwards we drove up the Dee Valley to visit Glass Blobbery a small glass forming business specialising in glass art sculptures. |
Tuesday - Erddig Hall near Wrexham was our choice for today owned by National Trust built in 1684 - 1687 for the High Sheriff of Denbighshire. Had light lunch and walked around the gardens. In the evening we visited the Hollybush for a meal. We now look forward 2017. Stan & Kay More Pictures In The Gallery |
